A Broken Champagne Glass Will Not Deter Fran Liebowitz

There are so many questions we have about acerbic wit Fran Liebowitz. How does she, self-admittedly lazy, make her living? It takes a lot of money to make The International best Dressed List. Has the witty author ever published a book after 1981's "Metropolitan life"? We know, of course, that she writes -- occasionally -- the odd piece for Vanity Fair. But when was the last time she had a recurring gig anywhere? Is there any truth to the rumor that the late Malcolm Forbes, "confirmed bachelor/capitalist tool," took care of her in his will? Was he her patron?

Anyhoo: Fran, who is an old hand at glam parties, should be used to champagne. That doesn't mean that unpleasantness doesn't happen from time to time with "the fizzy." From Fashionweekdaily:

" It's not tough to convince New Yorkers to trot up to Central Park---especially if Karl is involved. Last night, the Kaiser unveiled his Mobile Art exhibition (designed by Zaha Hadid, like you didn't already know) with an al fresco cocktail party. There were all the Chanel trimmings, of course--excellent champagne, plenty of cigarette-addled Europeans, Sebastian Jondeau.

".. When the Kaiser finally arrived, he was swarmed by Sarah Jessica Parker, Carine Roitfeld, and Franca Sozzani. 'Thank you, thank you,' he murmurred to the swarms of admirers before decamping inside the blessedly heated tent where an hour earlier, Fran Leibowitz recovered from a broken champagne glass incident."

If it was a Lagerfeld party then it goes without saying that the champagne was top drawer, and thus we call alcohol abuse on Fran.
