Bobby Byrd Weeps For Ted Kennedy

This blog kind of got vicious *The Corsair snaps twice* on the subject of West Virginia profoundly uneducated electorate. But their Senator, Bobby Byrd, a former Klansman a long, long time ago, is a class act who redeemed his people. After the West Virginia electorate gave Senator Clinton a cacophonous 41 percent spread mainly because of racism (The Corsair whistles, slowly), Byrd went AGAINST the popular will of his state and endorsed Senator Obama. And we love him for it. And his past in the Klan means nothing to us anymore. It's all good. But this ... this kind of got us a bit misty. In a manly way, of course (snff, snff). Awww, Senator Byrd. From Politico:

"Sen. Robert C. Byrd has offered perhaps the most emotional outpouring on the Senate floor in years, offering a weeping tribute to 'his dear friend, Ted Kennedy.'

"His voice cracking, hands trembling, Byrd sat in his wheelchair and slowly read his tribute to Kennedy, who has been diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor.

"'I want to take a moment to say how distraught and terribly shaken I am over the news of my dear friend, my dear, dear friend, Ted Kennedy,' Byrd said. 'Ted, Ted, my dear friend, I love you, and I miss you.'

"Byrd broke down even further, mentioning his late wife Erma, who died two years ago after 68 years of marriage to Byrd.

"Byrd, 90, is the oldest and longest serving member of the Senate, and Kennedy, 76, is the second longest serving Democrat, and it's clear the men have an emotional and professional connection that dates back nearly five decades.

"'I thank God for you, Ted,' Byrd intoned."

This is kind of emotional and beautiful. To paraphrase Nick Carter on the subject of man-crying when he was arrested in Talahassee, "It's okay to cry."
